Accomplishments

I have introduced and supported legislation for:

  • Idaho jobs
  • Local option authority
  • Primary seat belt enforcement
  • Affordable housing
  • Election reform

I have also worked with those across the aisle on transportation bills, and water law. I constantly advocate for issues that will help middle class families and small businesses.

Idaho has dropped from near the top of the states in job growth to near the bottom. This is not acceptable, and creating a climate for good jobs – especially in such underfunded areas as education including colleges and universities, supporting small business, and sustainable energy – will be a top priority.

Idaho families are seeking real leadership from the legislature. It’s time to stop dodging the issues and get to work solving our state’s problems. It’s time to stop looking back to 1950 and instead plan for the future.

Committees

Below are committees that I have been on for the past 4 years in the Idaho House of Representatives:

  • State Affairs---deals with social issues, horse racing, lottery, elections, etc.
  • Transportation and Defense---deals with Idaho Transportation Department rules of the road, DMV, trucking, and a few National Guard issues.
  • Resources and Conservation---deals with Fish and Game, Parks and Rec. & water issues.

I am also on the following committees:

  • The Early Childhood Coordinating Council
  • Food Safety Committee
  • Idaho Governor’s residence committee

In 2007 I was a volunteer advisor on the Governors Manufactured Housing Advisory Committee which completed their work in about 9 months. I learned that when a Manufactured Home community is sold and there is a change of use of the land, the residents of that community become displaced. There is a social cost to their having to seek other housing. Manufactured Housing is affordable workforce housing. The committee gave their report to Gov. Otter with recommendations on how the state should address these citizens and the cost of displacement. I was the chair of a subcommittee that wrote one section out of four of that report.

Involvement

I regularly attend meetings of:

  • Governor’s Big Horn Sheep Advisory committee
  • Governor’s Health care task force
  • Governor's Transportation advisory committee
  • Idaho Transportation Departments’ board meetings
  • Voices for Children meetings
  • Meetings about education, resources, & public transportation
